COVID-19 Lockdown: Genuine Farmers Should Be Among Essential Services – Shehu Sani

Former lawmaker, Shehu Sani has said that genuine farmer should be part of the essential services exempted from the lockdown.

Sani stated that this is to ward off poverty because they can’t do the job from home.

The lockdown has led to the loss of many jobs as companies lay off their staff to reduce their debt during this difficult period. With over 70 percent of Nigeria living below the poverty level, many farmers live from hand to mouth in Nigeria.

In a series of tweets up to this morning, he also lambasted some politicians that are talking like health experts on the novel coronavirus.

Tweeting further about the statistics from COVID-19 in Nigeria, Sani noted that 28 people have died from the virus in the country. This he noted that it is approximately the number of people that are killed weekly by Bandits operating in the vast ungoverned spaces of Niger, Kaduna, Zamfara and Katsina states in the North West of Nigeria.
