COVID-19 Nigeria Update

It is no longer news that there are currently 131 cases reported so far on COVID-19 in Nigeria, with Lagos being the epicenter with 81.

Meanwhile, the Oyo state government has discharged the index case in after testing negative. According to a statement Taiwo Adisa, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the release of the patient was consequent upon the completion of his treatment at the Agbami Chest Hospital Isolation Centre, Ibadan.

“The index case had been on self-isolation at a private residence in Ibadan until he was transferred to the Isolation Centre on March 23.

“The index case was released after two consecutive negative tests.”

In Kaduna, there are two new cases who were in contact with index, Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i. According to Kaduna State Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Baloni, who reviewed the as confirmed by the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), health officials are actively tracking all contacts of positive cases to curtail the spread of the virus.

The commissioner, therefore, urged residents to strictly adhere to the stay at home and self quarantined declared by the state government to curtail the spread of the pandemic.

She also advised residents on regular hand washing and observe social distancing to avoid contracting the virus.

Also on Monday, the Nigerian military confirmed that one of its personnel, who recently returned from a foreign assignment, has tested positive, becoming the index case for the Armed Forces.

The Officer has been admitted at the Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital, Abuja.

Coordinator of the Defence Media Operations, Major-General John Enenche, who confirmed the development to journalists at the Defence Headquarters Abuja, said the military will unveil 17 isolation treatment centers across the country for the treatment of the dreaded virus.

He also said that the Armed Forces will enforce the restriction on movement as contained in the Presidential order.
