Lagos’ guidelines on reopening of businesses post-lockdown

The Lagos State Government has rolled out what it called ‘Register-to-open’ guidelines for businesses as it prepares for the opening of the economy following the ongoing lockdown.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu stated this while speaking at a webinar organised by First Securities Discount House (FSDH) Group, themed: “A Global Pandemic: Local Realities and Peculiarities – A View from the Frontlines”, said government was concerned about balancing the reactivation of economic activities and the continuation of the state’s response to contain the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Under the four-page Register-to-Open guidelines, the state government is offering incentives that the governor said will affect its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

In granting a three-month moratorium to SMEs loan application, the overall strategy is to prevent job loss in critical industries that provide employment for a large number of labour.

The Lagos State Employment Trust Funds (LSETF), the government has also started compiling data of registered MSMEs in the state for operational support that would cushion the effect of economic slowdown on their businesses.

An observational study has shown that Hydroxychloroquine which President Donald Trump once touted as a solution to coronavirus is not effective after all.

According to the study, nearly 100,000 coronavirus patients who received antimalarial drugs-including hydroxychloroquine had an increased risk of death or cardiac issue.

The findings, published in a medical journal, The Lancet, surveyed 96,000 coronavirus patients across six continents.

The Special Adviser on Religious Affairs in Yobe State, Huztaz Babagana Malam Kyari, said the Eid prayers would be held across the 17 local government areas of the state. He said the Government would rather encourage its teeming Muslim population to come out and pray to Allah against the pandemic that stay at home.

He, however, stated that they would be guided by the state’s COVID-19 committee to observe the Eid prayers.

Kano on its part said that the Eid-el-Fitr prayers will hold in mosques across the state on Sallah day with strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols.
