COVID-19 Nigeria Update Today

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has announced 196 new cases of COVID19.

From the new figures reported, Lagos has 87 cases, Kano-24, Gombe – 18, Kaduna – 17, FCT -16, Katsina – 10, Sokoto – 8, Edo -7, Borno -6, while Yobe, Ebonyi, and Adamawa have one case each.

Out of the 1728 reported cases of COVID19 in Nigeria, 307 patients have been discharged with 51 deaths recorded.

 Local cure for coronavirus will be procured soon -Ooni of Ife

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi has said that a local cure would be proffered soon to end coronavirus.

The monarch stated this at Oke – Mosan Governor’s Office, Abeokuta, Ogun State, while handing over two motorised modular fumigators to Governor Dapo Abiodun as his donation to the Ogun State Government in support of its battle against the spread of the COVID – 19 in the state.

He said: “We are going to proffer the local cure for coronavirus very soon, I have gone very far in an advanced stage with the traditional medicine practitioners in Nigeria because before this pandemic came out, I have actually announced even before it came and broke out to the entire world.”

Buhari won’t let Kano down, says Presidency

The Presidency has promised to stand by Kano state government as the state battles the spike in strange deaths and rising Coronavirus cases.

The Presidency said on Wednesday that President Muhammadu Buhari was committed to ensuring that the situation is quickly brought under control.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, i a statement on Wednesday noted that Nigeria is affected by the shortage of personal protective equipment, testing kits and other medical devices required to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

“However, the Buhari administration will support Kano as results of the verbal autopsies are awaited,” he added.

Minister counters NAFDAC over rice distributed in Oyo

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouq, has dismissed the claims of the National Agency for Food Drugs and Administration Control (NAFDAC) over the rice distributed in Oyo State.

NAFDAC Director-General Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye had said that her agency was not invited to test the rice distributed in Oyo State by the Federal Government, which they returned.

She said that her agency was only invited to take samples of rice from Idi-Iroko, Ikeja and Ogun State.

Reacting to the claims made by NAFDAC, the minister during the daily briefing by members of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 said her ministry got a certificate issued by NAFDAC.
