COVID-19 Nigeria Update Today
The confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria has risen to 4399 after the announcement of 248 new cases by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
According to the government agency, Lagos the epicentre has 81 from the new case, followed by Jigawa with 35. Borno and Kano recorded 26 each, Bauchi has 20, FCT recorded 13, Edo and Sokoto have ten each, Zamfara has seven, Kwara and Kebbi has four, Gombe, Taraba, Ogun, and Ekiti have two each while Osun and Bayelsa recorded one case each.
From the 4399 cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria, 778 people have been discharged while 143 have died.

The agency further announced the discharge of 13 and 2 deaths on May 9 in FCT.

Madagascar sends COVID-19 cure drugs to Nigeria
The Republic of Madagascar has sent its herbal drug – COVID Organics (COV) – to Nigeria and other African countries.
According to reports, the drug is used for the prevention and cure of Coronavirus.
Nigeria’s consignment has been sent to Equatorial Guinea from where it will be airlifted to Abuja.
Nigeria currently has 4,399 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 143 deaths.

There has been huge pressure on the Federal Government by different medical and scientific organizations to allow the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to subject the drug to further analysis, while some are pushing for a clinical trial of COVID Organics before being used in the country.
US citizen dies in Delta after showing symptoms of COVID-19
A 60-year-old US citizen, who showed symptoms of COVID-19 has died in Delta state.
This was confirmed by Hafiz Inuwa, the commissioner of police in the state. According to him, the woman was in Nigeria to visit her male friend.
He also revealed that the US citizen was kept in a hotel in Warri for sometime before being relocated to another hotel around Orerokpe.
“While they were together for about a week, the woman was coughing and having difficulty breathing and stooling. So, she was taken to a hospital on Saturday when her condition became worse and eventually died,” Inuwa said.
He said the male friend is with the police in Orerokpe. NCDC is expected to come to take his sample.
COVID-19: Nigeria needs N10.1tr gov’t intervention- NESG
The Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) has said that the country needs at least N10.1 trillion worth of interventions from the government to address the fallout of the Coronavirus pandemic.
This was stated by the Chief Executive Officer of NESG Jaiyeola Laoye, during the virtual dialogue organised by the Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning and the Department for Internal Development (DFID).
Laoye further revealed that Nigeria’s intervention since the onset of the pandemic is estimated at N4.5 trillion (3.1 per cent of GDP), which consists of interventions from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), fiscal authorities and donations.
He, therefore, stated that Nigeria needs N10.1 trillion (seven per cent of GDP) worth of interventions to ameliorate the economy, given the slow and fragile growth with over 100 million individuals living in poverty.
