Stop visiting quarantine returnees, PTF warns

The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic has warned the public to stay away from visiting quarantined returnees from foreign countries.

The warning was given by Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman of the PTF, Boss Mustapha, on Thursday during the daily press briefing by the task force in Abuja.

While stating that such visits were potentially dangerous to public health, the SGF lamented reports and viral videos depicting unsafe practices around the quarantine locations of those evacuated from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), United Kingdom (UK), and the United States of America (USA).

He advised those being quarantined to decline visits from their friends and loved ones for the period they would be in observation, noting that the disease for which they were being kept away had a high contagious nature.

Ganduje calls for better strategy in dealing with agitations at isolation centers

Kano Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has called for a better strategy to stop further agitations of COVID-19 patients across the country.

The governor made the call while speaking during the inspection of the Daula Female Isolation Centre in Kano city, which has a 100-bed capacity facility and it is for moderate cases.

Ganduje said everything is ready for operation and all the workers who are to work here have already been posted.

He, therefore, urged the workers to be conscientious in their duty as he doesn’t want to hear any complaints from any patient, adding that the officers need to understand the psychology of the patients.

Mishandling of patient: Kwara suspends Perm Secretary

Kwara State Technical Committee on COVID-19 pandemic has suspended the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr Ayinla Abubakar, indefinitely over the mishandling of the evacuation of a man who had reportedly locked himself in his vehicle for days and had become distressed following some personal life challenges.

A viral video showed the mishandling of the man’s rescue operation.

Expressing embarrassment at the whole development, the committee explained that the driver has been sacked from all activities of the committee for unilaterally allowing evacuation of the man by members of the public without waiting for the Rapid Response Team (RRT) to arrive the scene as instructed, and the Permanent Secretary who directed him to proceed on the operation with a COVID-19 ambulance without due diligence and respect for all safety protocols.

A statement released by Kayode Alabi, Deputy Governor and Chairman of the COVID-19 Committee read: “As the highest official involved in the RRT squad who gave the directive for the driver to proceed, the committee does not accept his explanation regarding the ugly development.

“He has been asked to hand over to the most senior officer on the team pending his return from suspension. This development also has necessitated a new round of refresher course (which is now ongoing) for all our ambulance drivers and members of the RRT, as the scenario witnessed in the footage cannot be allowed to happen ever again…
