COVID-19 Update in Nigeria

Ondo State has now joined the list of states that have cases of COVID-19.

This means that al the southwestern states of the federation now has positive cases. Presently 14 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) now has 210 cases.

On the new case, Ondo Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu explained that the index is a military officer who returned from India. According to him, he had followed the guideline by self-isolated himself upon his arrival.

“The index case is a military officer who was a returnee from India. He has been in isolation since he returned and has been monitored by the medical team of the Military and our state team throughout this period.

“Upon showing some symptoms, his samples were taken and the diagnosis confirmed by NCDC
at their lab in Ede. We have now commenced the transfer of the officer to the state isolation center.”

While revealing that the government has activated all necessary protocols to locate all contacts and it will be working closely with NCDC, Akeredolu said the infected is in very stable condition.

He, therefore, called for calm from all in the state, adding that his government is on top of the matter, and ask that our citizens continue to follow all preventive measures to ensure they remain safe.

iDONSABI.com reports that Nigeria currently has 210 cases with twenty new cases reported yesterday. From the twenty cases, Lagos which is the epicenter has three and followed by the FCT with the same number. Edo has two while Osun State has one each. Out of the 210, 25 has patients have been discharged after testing negative twice and four deaths have been recorded.

With over 60 percent contract tracing already done as claimed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, it is believed that more is being done to curtail the spread of the virus.
