Cristiano Ronaldo has singlehandedly lifted Atletico Madrid and sent them straight into the last eight of the UEFA Champions League. In Ronaldo-esque style the Portuguese notched a hatrick to take the Old Lady past experts in defence building, Atletico Madrid.
Atletico Madrid had to overturn a 2-0 goal deficit to go through to the next round and would have their talisman, Ronaldo, who was brought in to Turin for Champions League success to thank for victory over Diego Simeone men.
Cristiano Ronaldo netted on both sides of the break and converted a penalty four minutes from time as Juventus advanced 3-2 on aggregate.
It was Ronaldo’s eighth hatrick in the competition, moving him level with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi at the knockout stages of the competition.
After the hattrick, an interview comes to mind. Diego Simeone was quizzed after his side’s success against Juventus if he saw the Italian giants doing a remondanta (comeback) against Atleti just like the likes of Man United and Ajax did?
Diego in an emphatic reply said: “I will sell watermelon in the street of Madrid if that happens”
– Journalist:” Do you expect Remontada from Juve against Atletico like Ajax and Man United?”.
– Simeone: “I will sell melons in Madrid’s streets if that happened.” 😂🚀 pic.twitter.com/krtbG0rnJc

And oh boy, he must be shipped to the markets right now.
Juventus thought they had an early goal in the third minute but Ronaldo had fouled Jan Oblak in the build-up and the goal was ruled out. However, they did score the first of the night in the 28th minute when Ronaldo rose highest at the far post to meet a Bernadeschi’s cross to take it beyond the reach of Jan Oblak.
Three minutes past halftime, Juve got another and it was through no other than the Portuguese. Cancelo whipped in a cross for Cristiano Ronaldo and although Oblak had clawed the header from under his crossbar, goal-line technology confirmed the ball had crossed the line.
Juventus were back in it and no other than Ronaldo stepped up to take a penalty four minutes from time when a penalty call was made to send fans in Turin wild.
Juventus 3-0 Atletico Madrid it ended.
