Elections: Bauchi INEC Begins Training Of Corps Members

Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the Bauchi state office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced root training exercise for Corps members deployed to Bauchi State to be used as ad-hoc support staff for the conduct of the Elections.

While declaring open the training exercise on Thursday, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) who was represented by the Registration Officer, Alhaji Huzaifa Ismail said the workshop was taking place simultaneously in all the 20 Local Government Areas of the State.

He revealed that the decision to start the 2019 maiden training with Corps members in the state was informed by the fact that they are the most important set of ad-hoc staff of INEC above any other groups.

According to him, the training exercise would be conducted every Thursday for three weeks at the end of which a general training would be carried out on 29th of January, 2019.


Ondo Police Arrest Two Security Guards Over Missing Underwear Of Clergy’s Daughter

Two Church security guards have been arrested by the men of the Ondo state police command over the disappearance of two under wears belonging to the daughter of the clergy in charge of the church.

The two suspects, Samuel Linus and Adekunle Ogundana, who were both on night duty, were alleged to have removed the under wears spread within the church vicarage by the young lady around 9 pm, and were said to have disappeared before dawn.

It was gathered that the young lady raised the alarm around 6 am the following day after discovering that the two pants spread on the line at the back of her room had disappeared while the security had left the compound for their homes.


I’ll Stand As Abiodun’s Guarantor ― Osoba To Ogun Workers

The former governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba, has promised to stand as guarantor for the governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Dapo Abiodun, over issues relating to workers’ welfare.

The national leader of APC said this in Abeokuta during the meeting of Abiodun with leaders and members of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in the state, on Friday.

Osoba while addressing the labour leaders promised that Abiodun would be a labour-friendly governor if elected into office with an assurance that Abiodun would emerge as the next governor of the state.


Elections: Buhari Goes Emotional As PDM Declares Support

In what was seen as a setback for the candidacy of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM), a political movement started by Shehu Yar’Adua today declared support for President Buhari.

Atiku, who is now in America on a foreign campaign, has always regarded Yar’Adua as his mentor and leader.

But today, the founding chairman of the PDM, Dr. Farouk Abdulaziz led other executives to declare support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s candidacy. Among the delegates was the current chairman, Senator Abubakar Mahdi.


Kwara APC Faction Protests INEC’s Exclusion Of Its NASS Candidates

Chairman of the court-backed All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara state, Hon. Ishola Balogun-Fulani has protested non-listing of the party’s candidates in the list of National Assembly candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Friday, Balogun-Fulani decried and condemned the decision of INEC to list the candidates of the factional APC led by Bashir Bolarinwa.

Balogun-Fulani also said that his party viewed the INEC’s action as tantamount to disobeying the court judgment affirming him as authentic state chairman of APC.

Mu’azu, Yuguda, Others Defection Will Not Affect PDP Chances In 2019 ― Bala Muhammad

Campaign Council of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the forthcoming general elections in Bauchi State, Senator Bala Muhammad Abdulkadir has reiterated that the recent defection of the former National Chairman of PDP Ahmadu Muazu, immediate former Governor Isa Yuguda and others to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) will not in any way negatively affect the fortune of the party in the next general elections but rather boost its chances .

Director of Administration of the Council who doubles as the Spokesman of the Gubernatorial Candidate, Alhaji Maigari Mohammed Khanna stated this Friday in while answering questions from reporters preparatory to the official flagging off the gubernatorial campaign on Saturday.

He said that “first to put the record straight, the Former Governors and their co-travellers did not defect from the PDP to the APC as being widely publicized but they moved from where they were in political silence or from other Political Parties but definitely not from the PDP”.


We Need To Restructure For Nigeria To Work —Labinjo

Professor Adesegun Labinjo, national chairman of the United States chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has said that Nigeria needs to be restructured for it to work.

Professor Labinjo said “So many things are wrong with the existing political structure. You have a section of the political class that is capricious and greedy. So, we must restructure in the area of resource management and control. We must bring an end to free fund; people must be ready to work to make a living. The constituent units of the country must be ready to look inward and not depend solely on the resources of others to survive. The current system encourages indolence and kills initiative and hard work. When we restructure, the individual entities will zero in on their resources, potential and endowment maximally.”

“When we restructure, we would have succeeded in promoting greater co-existence, discouraging inertia as leaders and their people will think outside the box and come up with pragmatic and realistic solution to the general needs of the people. ”

He further said “A restructured Nigeria will address the current crisis of confidence, impunity and corruption in all forms; we would have returned to the path of greatness, fairness, justice and equity, which are essential ingredients for nation-building and the attainment of nationhood.”


SSANU Urges FG To Implement New Minimum Wage

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) Abuja chapter, has called on the Federal Government to quickly implement the new minimum wage.

Chairman of the Association, Khadijat Umar, made the call during the inauguration of its rehabilitated secretariat and launching of the 18-seater bus in Gwagwalada on Friday.

According to her, delay by the government to implement the new minimum wage is not in the interest of workers in the country.
