DeBruyne Suggests The Premier League Should Be Voided

Manchester City midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne insists that resuming the campaign after a long break is a necessary recipe for injury woes.

The Belgian believes that teams making up the English top-flight could be hit by a barrage of injuries should the season resume immediately. He therefore thinks cancelling the season could be a better option.

English season has been suspended till a further date of April 30 following the outbreak of the potentially deadly Coronavirus. Should the season not resume in time, the Football Association is willing to push the league’s deadline date further past the normal cut-off of June 1.

De Bruyne has been exceptional for the Citizens this term, registering eight goals and notching double that in assists (16). The creative playmaker inspired a 2-1 first leg win over Real Madrid in a last-16 tie of the Champions League that has now been put on hold following the Coronavirus outbreak.

Yet, Debruyne wouldn’t mind all of those records chalked off for the benefit of the bigger picture.

“I have no idea when we will be playing again. We haven’t played for six weeks,” De Bruyne, who missed City’s last two games before the shutdown due to a shoulder injury sustained during the EFL Cup final win over Aston Villa, told HLN.

“Normally you’d need a preparation of three to four weeks. If we restart immediately then everybody will be injured after a few games.

“I know that there’s lots of money involved. But I think that waiting so long to make a decision can cause issues next season.

“There won’t be a long summer break and you can just postpone everything.

“I would feel sad if the season is stopped after such a good year, but if it avoids issues for next season, it must be done.”
