Deji Adeyanju Granted Bail By Kano State High Court

The Kano State High Court has today, February 18th 2019, granted bail to Deji Adeyanju, after spending 67 days in detention.

iDONSABI gathers that Mr Deji Adeyanju was set free on bail when his matter came up early on Monday morning, with a condition that he must provide sureties and N500,000, according to his lawyers.

Recall that Deju Adeyanju, the activist, was apprehended on December 13, 2018, over allegations he was involved in a murder in Kano back in the year 2005.

However, the police in Kano state did not formally arraign Mr Deji Adeyanju for the alleged murder in the year 2005.

According to sources, it was seen that Mr Deji Adeyanju was charged for murder in 2005 at the Kano State High Court, but was discharged and acquitted in 2009 after a lengthy trial.

The previous acquittal and the failure of the Kano state police to arraign Mr Deji Adeyanju for several weeks after apprehending him sparked up speculation that his detention was based on a political aim.

Meanwhile, the Kano State police have come out to deny all the allegations that the arrest of Deji Adeyanju was politically motivated.

Deji Adeyanju spent over two months of his detention fighting for bail at federal and state courts, due to the fact that the police did not bring charges against which to defend himself while he was detained.

Theophilus Agada known to be an associate of Deji Adeyanju stated that the latter would meet the bail requirements on Monday.

According to Agada, he said in a statement:

“He was asked to provide a senior civil servant in Kano State, and two pieces of land with N500,000,” We are confident that this requirement would be met and he’ll be released today.”
