Dija Suggests Review Of Consent Age Of The Girl Child In Nigeria

Nigerian singer and artiste, Dija has aired her opinion on the issue of girl child marriages and has called for a change in the country’s age of consent which stands at 11 at the moment.

The singer expressed her concern and she took to Instagram to express her concern. Dija admitted that there were commendable reports in several sectors of the economy and the country in general.

However she steered her writing in the direction of girl child marriages. Dija shared a screenshot of her Google search on what the consent age in Nigeria was – indicating that she had done a background search on the subject topic.

The singer stressed that she wasn’t picking on any tribes, religion or gender nor practices in some sections of the country. She followed this up with a note before which she said that if children were exposed to abuses it would inevitable affect the future of such children leading to cases of such victims having to deal with memories of abuse for the most part of their lives

“Just going to drop this here and hear your thoughts..We have come a long way. We have advanced beyond comprehension in a short amount of time, music, lifestyle, agriculture and are still growing. That being said there are some areas I believe needs more attention and this is one of them”,

“There are many ways to go around this issue but the best one is to go through it…This isn’t a fight against religion tribe, gender but a redirection of our energies and thought processes to protect the ones that birth your nation”,

“If children become psychologically, physically and emotionally damaged before a certain age all you will have are adults with suppressed memories of abuse, which lead to psychological mind ware-fare…#saveme”, Dija wrote.
