Dog Kills Son of Gambia’s President-Elect

The son of Gambian president-elect has been killed! And it wasn’t by an assassin’s bullet or by the hand of any of his father’s enemy, but by a dog…

8-year-old Habibu Barrow, the son of Adama Barrow (Gambia’s president elect) reportedly died on Sunday while he was being rushed to a hospital in Manjai near the Gambian capital Banjul after being bitten by a dog.

Mr Adama Barrow could not attend his eight-year-old son’s funeral, due to the fact that he had left the country a day earlier, why he is currently residing for fear of his safety – African leaders had also endorsed his sojourn in Senegal.

After defeating incumbent president Yayah Jammeh in 2016’s presidential election in Gambia, the sitting president had held on to power, refusing to accept election results. The development had created tension in the Gambia and an intervention of ECOWAS states including Nigeria.

ECOWAS leaders have since held talks with Jammeh, imploring him to accept the results but their plea has been met by a resolute Jammeh. Meanwhile, Barrow has been urged to remain in Senegal until January 19, on which day his inauguration is slated.
