ECOWAS urges political parties to respect the outcome of the 2019 Presidential polls

– ECOWAS has urged Nigerian political parties to respect the outcome of the 2019 Presidential poll

– This comes after the opposition party, PDP and it candidate, Alh. Atiku Abubakar disclosed it would seek redress in the court of law over the outcome of the election

West African socio-economical body, the Economic Communities of West African State ECOWAS met in Dakar for the opening of the Extra-Ordinary Session of the Parliament today.

The body parliament in it statement discussed on the presidential election which took place in Nigeria and Senegal on the 23rd and 24th of Feb respectively.

According to the statement released by the Parliament, it urged political parties in Nigeria to respect the outcome of the 2019 Presidential election in line with the ECOWAS protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.

The body also took the opportunity to congratulate Nigerian Pres., Muhammadu Buhari on his victory in the poll.

The President of ECOWAS Parliament, Mustapha Cisse Lo in his statement said: “Indeed the Senegalese and Nigerian elections have proclaimed their results that were held 23 February 2019 for Nigeria, 24 February 2019 for Senegal.”

“These results declared very legitimately saw the reelection of his Excellency Muhammadu Buhari as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and his Excellency Macky Sall as President the Republic of Senegal.”

“I wish to affirm and reaffirm once again my congratulations to his Excellency Muhammadu Buhari and His Excellency Macky Sall, for their brilliant success that strengthen the genuineness of democracy in our sub-region.”

“I call on the political actors to continue to respect the official results of these elections in accordance with the relevant provisions of ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.”

This comes after the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party PDP and It candidate, Alh. Atiku Abubakar had disclosed it would seek redress im court over the outcome of the election result.
