Erling Haaland Signs For Dortmund Ahead Of Manchester United

Borussia Dortmund have announced the signing of Erling Haaland from Austrian Champions, RB Salzburg, effective putting to death speculations of a January move to Manchester United.

It is understood that the Red devils had met the release clause of the Norwegian but didn’t quite agree with his personal terms. United decided against signing the striker reportedly due to the value of the buy-out striker should the 19-year-old opt to go elsewhere.

The hugely talented forward signs for the German giants in a four and half year deal, and will officially pitch his tent with the Germans on January 3 after Dortmund met his release clause put at £17million.

Haaland reportedly told Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he would love to play for Manchester United. Solskjaer who hails from the same country as Haaland managed the teenager at Molde FC only some months back.

The RB Salzburg striker has netted 28 times and turned provider on seven occasions in 22 league outings. He’s also found the net eight times in six Champions League games.

“I had intensive discussions with the club management and the sports management, especially with Hans-Joachim Watzke, Michael Zorc and trainer Lucien Favre,” Haaland said.

“There was a feeling right from the start that I absolutely wanted to switch to this club, go this route and play football in this incredible Dortmund atmosphere in front of more than 80,000 spectators. I’m already burning for it.”

Hans Joachim-Watze, Dortmund CEO said:

“Despite many offers from absolute top clubs from all over Europe, Erling Haaland decided on the task at BVB. Our tenacity has paid off.”

In addition to that, Michael Zorc, sports director in charge of the negotiations said:

“We can all look forward to an ambitious, athletic and physically strong centre-forward with a pronounced goal instinct and impressive speed.

“We would like to develop [that] further in Dortmund. At the age of 19, Erling is of course just beginning a hopefully great career.”
