The past State Governor, Fayose, just after a year in office, introduced the payment of education tax in all public and private schools across the state. The school children were required to pay the sine of N500 – N1,000 per term respectively.
In the same address, the new governor also appealed to the state residents to vote for President Mohammad Buhari in the coming election next year. Fayemi, during a thank-you visit to Ikere Ekiti and Ido, the Ekiti North and South senatorial district headquarters respectively, said that education is now free up till the secondary cadre.
He said “our children will no longer have to pay tax in both public and private schools”. “we ran free education when we were in power from 2010 to 2014 until the last administration came and said school children should pay for tax. He further said that his administration will introduce school feeding programs for school children from primary to secondary school levels with revenues from the federal government coffers.
After this, Fayemi said the only way to fulfill the promise made by the government to extend the railway to Ekiti and to dualize the Ado-Akure road is by allowing this government to continue in 2019. He said the only way for Ekiti to benefit from the numerous goodies promised by President Buhari is by voting for him again.
