Fayose In EFCC Coffers, Asked To Refund 1.3 Billion Naira

Ayodele Fayose, the immediate past Governor of Ekiti State, has finally answered the invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission after losing his immunity from persecution on Tuesday.

The past Governor arrived at the venue in the company of the Former Aviation Minister Fani Kayode, Gov. Wike, and a retinue of lawyers including Chief Mike Ozekhome.

It was learnt that during Interrogation, Fayose was asked to write a statement explaining how he spent 1.3 billion naira he alleged received from the Office of the National Security Adviser through the former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, during the culmination to the 2014 Ekiti State governorship election.

The commission asked oim to refund the money. However, according to an un-named source at the commission, the former governor refused to admit collecting the alleged amount. The source said Fayose was treated with the utmost courtesy when he arrived at the office.

He was said the former governor refused to admit collecting the money on oath, despite overwhelming evidence against him. As at 7pm on Tuesday, the former governor was still writing his statement.

The alleged fund was iaid to be part of the 4.7 billion naira given to Senator Musiliu Obanikoro by the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki. On the other hand, another 1.3 billion naira was given to the Osun State governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Senator Iyiola Omisore. The funds were alleged transported from Lagos to Ekiti a via air.

Since the start the investigation in 2015, the EFCC has successfully interrogated about 20 people involved in this case, and all evidence points to the fact that Fayose received the said amount.

Besides Omisore and Obanikoro, others also interrogated include Aide -de -Camp to Obanikoro , Lt. Olumide Adewale; Captain Ahmed Borodo, the pilot of the alleged plane used to transport the funds; and Fayose ’ s aide, Abiodun Agbele. Bureau de change and bank executives were also interrogated by the EFCC on this issue.
