Federal High Court In Abuja Grants Former SGF Babachir Lawal N50m Bail

Barely 24 hours after the former secretary to the federal government, Babachir Lawal, was remanded in the EFCC custody, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has today, February 13th, granted the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation identified as Babachir Lawal bail.

If you could remember, it was just yesterday that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, arraigned the former SGF Babachir Lawal before a Federal High court in Abuja over his use of a company said to be owned by him to remove what he had described as invasive grass at the cost of over N272 million.

However, as at yesterday, the former SGF, Babachir Lawal had pleaded not guilty to the 10 count charges the EFCC pressed against him, bordering on alleged conspiracy and fraudulent acquisition of property.

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja also held that the former Secretary to the Federal Government and the two others must give their international passport with the court pending the fulfilment of their bail conditions so that they will not be able to travel out of the country while they have been given bail.

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja further adjourned the case of Babachir Lawal till March 18, 2019, after also stressing that Both Mr. Lawal and the two others must remain in EFCC’s custody until they fulfil their bail conditions.
