Femi Branch Says He Became An Actor Against Father Wish

Nollywood actor, Femi Branch has said in an interview with Punch Newspaper that his decision to go into acting wasn’t particularly pleasing to his parents.

The graduate of Theatre Arts from the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University revealed that the relationship between he and his father was severed as a result of his decision to go into drama.

Prior to that, he said his father had wanted a lawyer and that his dad wanted it so bad he went back to the University of Ibadan to get a diploma course in Law. He added that his dad was so pained by his decision that he didn’t contact him for about two years.

“For him it was a disappointment and he almost did not contact me for about two years. Our fight was settled when I did a commercial for MTN. I was not in Lagos and we had not spoken for a long time before that and out of the blue, I got a call from my dad; he was asking me how I was doing. He said that he saw the advertising and congratulated me on it”, he said.

Femi Branch said that he afterwards made a call to his mum and she told him it was one of his father’s friends who had seen him on the billboard. According to him, it was this friend who informed his dad that his son had become a star.

He concluded by saying that it was only after this that his father accepted his decision to go into drama.

“I called my mother later and she was the one that told me that one of my father’s friends had seen the billboard and called his attention to it. He went there to check. It was not easy but I am thankful for the fact that they were later glad that I took the decision that I did”, he said.
