Fernandinho Offered 1-Year Contract Extension At City

Manchester City midfielder, Fernandinho has been handed a contract extension at the Etihad stadium, meaning he would represent the Citizens for one more season.

The Brazilian is poised to celebrate his contract extension with his 300th appearance for City in the Manchester derby set to come up soon.

The 34-year-old will be making his 300th appearance in City’s Carabao clash with fierce rivals, Manchester United having stayed at the Etihad for six-and-half years.

The Brazilian could have left on a free at the end of the season but Spanish boss, Guardiola expressed his utmost intent at keeping him for one more campaign.

In response to the contract extension, Fernandinho said:

“This is the best possible news. I want to take this opportunity to put on record how grateful I am to my team-mates and the backroom staff here at City. Without them, this deal would not be possible, so sincere thanks to every single one of them.

“I have enjoyed every second of my time at City. I never expected to build such a meaningful relationship with the club and the fans, but it has happened, and I am grateful every single day.

“Our fans are unbelievable; I am so happy that I will continue to play for them a year longer. I feel their love and passion and it genuinely helps keep me driven.

“My focus now is on making sure we continue to be successful. My time here has been decorated by silverware, but under Pep’s guidance we have really accelerated. I want that to carry on for as long as possible.”

Fernandinho has been used as a makeshift centre-back following the departure of Vincent Kompany and an injury to Aymeric Laporte.

Ever since he was played in that position Fernandinho has played every single game for Manchester City, missing only the Champions league final group game against Dynamo Zagreb where he was rested.
