FG Set To Shut Down Enugu State Airport

The Federal Government has stated that it will shut down the Enugu ‘Akanu Ibiam’ International Airport as a result of the deplorable state of its runway.

iDONSABI gathers that the Minister of Aviation (State) identified as Hadi Sirika revealed this news at a stakeholders forum yesterday, May 17th, in Lagos.

Hadi Sirika stated that the airport will be degraded for international operations because the runway length is not ideal for such operations.

According to Hadi Sirika, it was made known that the market, television masts and free trade zone needs to be relocated for the airport to be fit for safe flights and in order for accidents not to occur in the future.

The minister for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, further added that the Lagos International Airport terminal would be partially pulled down by Julius Berger Limited for a major change that will amount to N14 billion.

However, he revealed that this action will happen after the inauguration of the new terminal.
