A report reaching us indicates that at least five buildings and scores of shanties were razed on Friday at Oko Baba plank market at Jebba, Ebute Metta, Lagos Mainland.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started in one building but spread to other buildings and shanties in the area. Attempts are still being made by firefighters to douse the fire. They were also being assisted by residents of the area who trooped out in their hundreds in putting out the fire.
An unconfirmed report says effort of the firefighters to douse the fire had yielded no results.
This has made residents of the area start evacuating their properties as the fire team continues to battle with the fire.
