Former Iran President Dies at 82

Former Iranian President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has died.

The former leader of the Arab nation, died today, Sunday. Reports said he had suffered a heart attack; the Iranian state-run media revealed the former leader had died at 82.

President Rafsanjani, had served for two terms as President of Iran, his time as president spanned from 1989 to 1997. After stepping down from power, the former President Rafsanjani continued to be an influential figure in Iranian politics.

Prior to his passing, the octogenarian held the position of chairman of the Expediency Council, which aims to settle disputes between the country’s parliament and the Guardian Council.

Rafsanjani was seen as a key figure in Iran’s moderate movement and was a vocal supporter of current Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
