Former Min. for Finance reacts to Postponed General Election

– Former Min for Finance, Mrs. Okonjo Iweala has reacted to the postponed 2019 General Election by INEC

– She stated that the electoral body should have made the postponement known days before it was announced

iDONSABI.COM have previously reported that the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, made it known to the General Public few hours to the commencement of the Presidential Election on Saturday that the election will no longer take place owing to some problems with logistics.

The INEC chairman went on to reveal that the Presidential and National Assembly election has been postponed to the 23rd of Feb while the Governorship election had been shifted from the 2nd of March to the 8th of March.

However, Nigerian Former Min. for Finance, Okonjo Iweala in a statement reacted to the latest decision taken by INEC.

According to her statement, she said INEC should have informed Nigerians few days before Saturday in order to avoid wasted travel cost.

While reacting to the news on Twitter, the former minister for finance shared alongside her tweets a picture of herself at her polling unit as she faulted the last minute postponement.

Okonjo Iweala disclosed that failure of the election to take place saw children take over her polling unit for morning soccer.

She tweeted, “At the Umuda Isingwu village Community Primary School polling station contemplating the last minute postponement of Nigeria’s presidential and legislative elections, children have taken back their primary school for early morning soccer.

“To put it mildly, there could have been a few days’ notice of postponement to enable people to plan and avoid wasted travel costs! Not easy for the pockets of ordinary Nigerians!”

Okonjo Iweala was the minister for fiance under the Government of former Pres. Good luck Ebele Jonathan.
