Former WWE Superstar Ashley Massaro Dies At 39

A former WWE superstar, Ashley Massaro has been reported dead at a young age of 39 leaving behind a daughter, Alexis who’s now aged 18.

According to a report by TMZ Sports, Massaro died after being rushed to hospital from her home in the Suffolk County area of New York. The police were alerted to a “rescue me” call at around 5:20am on Thursday morning and came to her rescue.

The cause of the super star’s death still remains unknown but the case is said to be classified as non-criminal.

Massaro’s rise to stardom goes as far back as 2005 when she won the WWE Raw Diva Search which afforded her the opportunity of a one-year contract worth $250,000 with the world’s number one wrestling entertainment company.

She was involved in a number of high-profile matches during her time with WWE including a WWE Women’s Championship match against Melina at WrestleMania 23.

Massaro also featured on the April 2007 cover of Playboy Magazine before she finally said her goodbyes to WWE in 2008.

WWE wrote in a statement:

“We are saddened to learn of the tragic death of former WWE Superstar Ashley Massaro.

“She performed in WWE from 2005-2008 and was beloved by her fellow Superstars and fans around the world. WWE offers its condolences to Ashley’s family and friends.”

Tribute and condolences have flown in from across the world with WWE also posting a tribute to her career on their official website.

Mick Foley, former professional wrestler wrote on Twitter:

“This is just awful news – Ashley Massaro is gone. She was only 39. She lived in the same town as me…I loved seeing her around. She was always so nice…and now she’s gone.”

Massaro along with 59 other former professional wrestlers filed a lawsuit against the WWE on the grounds that they concealed the dangers of repetitive head injuries that have caused them neurological damage.

Ashley also alleged that she was sexually assaulted in a US military base which she filed in the same lawsuit.
