Frank Lampard Open To Olivier Giroud Departing In January Transfer Window

Chelsea boss, Frank Lampard has said he wouldn’t stand in the way of veteran striker, Olivier Giroud should the Frenchman choose to move away from Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window.

In fact, he confirms that there’s a huge possibility the World Cup winner heads out of Chelsea this transfer window.

The target man has only represented Chelsea in seven outings across all competitions this term and was limited to only two starts in all seven games.

Giroud has only six months left on his contract and has already fallen behind first choice, Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi in the pecking order.

The France International was condemned to the bench in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over championship club, Nottingham Forest, and got onto the turf after the final whistle, waving at fans of the club. This gesture has widely been interpreted as a goodbye gesture from the 33-year-old.

English boss and former Chelsea player, Lampard looks set to bring in another striker during the January transfer window. And it is Lyon’s Moussa Dembele that is thought to tickle the former Derby County manager’s fantasy.

Speaking after the clash with Forest, Lampard said:

“There’s no update on Ollie, but I’ve spoken with him,” the English boss said of the former Arsenal striker.

“If the conditions are that it’s something he really wants to do and it works for the club, for me and the squad then it’s something that could happen.

“But only when all of those bases are covered. So we’ll see if we’re there.”

The London Blues have also been linked with a move for RB Liepzig’s Timo Werner and Borussia Dortmund’s highly-rated forward, Jadon Sancho.

Chelsea were unable to bring any new players during the summer because of a transfer ban placed on them. However, with the ban removed Frank Lampard has stressed the importance of getting the recruitment right if the Blues should have any hopes of closing the gulf between themselves and the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.
