Fred Reveals His Favourite Postion At United

Manchester United midfielder, Fred who’s been in incredible form has revealed his ideal position in the Red devils’ starting lineup.

The Brazilian found the net twice as Manchester United recorded an emphatic win over Club Brugge in their Europa League tie on Thursday.

Fred admitted his best position was box-to-box play like he used to play with Shakhtar Donetsk but insists he is getting used to the role he’s being asked to play at Old Trafford.

The midfielder arrived from Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer of 2018 after the Red devils saw off competition from their city rivals, Manchester City to land him for £53 million.

His time at Manchester started slowly with the issues at the club making it difficult for him to adapt quickly.

However, the former Donetsk man has returned to something close to his best form, after getting used to the intensity of the game in England’s top-flight and bagging a brace to help United record an outstanding victory over Club Brugge in Europe’s second-tier competition.

“I think my ideal position is to join the attack a bit more like I did at Shakhtar,” the midfielder said of his ongoing adaptation in an interview with UnitedPeoplesTV. “I played more as a box-to-box midfielder, so I played a little bit further forward.

“Here, all teams play compact [compared to Ukraine]. Other teams make it harder to get near the penalty area to shoot and to get into scoring positions. It’s a bit different.

“But I think [box-to-box] is my ideal position. I’m playing well and getting better every day.”

Much of his resurgence has been down to the work he’s put in training and he has Michael Carrick to thank for that.

“Michael Carrick helps me a lot day-to-day,” he said.

“We always talk and he tries to help me with my positioning on the field. He’s someone who always talks to me, which is important for adapting my football to the Premier League.

“When I arrived, I would control the ball in midfield and then one or two opposition players would come along and I’d be knocked off the ball. Now I can understand the game better, knowing that I have to be quicker and stronger.

“So Carrick helps me day-to-day, keeping me calm. We do some one-on-one training, so he’s someone who influences me a lot at the club.”
