Frenkie De Jong Insists He Is Not Regretting Barcelona Move

Frenkie de Jong has insisted that he doesn’t regret making a switch to the Camp Nou to play for Spanish giants, Barcelona.

The former Ajax star is yet to produce his best for the Blaugranas but intends to get back into top form very soon.

The Dutch youngster admitted he hasn’t been his best for Barcelona but insists he has no regret over joining the Catalan giants.

Huge expectations accompanied the signing of De Jong who was bought from Ajax for a hefty fee of £65million.

Having struggled to make any impacts at Camp Nou, it has been suggested that the 22-year-old might now be questioning his big money move to Barcelona.

The midfielder however rubbished those thoughts in an interview with Sport. He said:

“No, that’s not true. I don’t regret having signed for Barca, not for one second.

“I am really happy because I always wanted to play here. I am playing with players who for me are genuine legends. I am enjoying myself and I am learning a lot, too. I am at the best club in the world. living in a wonderful city with great weather.”

When he was quizzed on whether there was a possibility of him becoming a club legend in time, De Jong said:

“It’s not something I can say. But I can give my best and have some wonderful years at Barca. Many years.

“Now, I am focused on working hard and being at my best. I hope I can be remembered: maybe not as a legend, but as a good player.”

De Jong’s fellow countryman, the legendary Johan Cruyff spent five years with the Catalan giants but expects the 22-year-old to extend his stay beyond that.

When asked if he could foresee himself retiring at the club, the Netherlands International said:

“I hope so. I always wanted to play for Barca.

“I don’t know what will happen in the future, but I am happy here and there’s no step forward from Barca. There’s no better level.”
