Fresh Xenophobia Attacks Occur in South Africa, Three Nigerians Injured

• Three Nigerians have been injured in fresh attacks.
• Foreigners are seeking refuge in Polic station.

Fresh xenophobic attacks in South Africa have left three Nigerians injured on Tuesday.

The fresh xenophobic attacks took place in different locations of Witbank, Mpumanlaga Province, South Africa.

This was revealed by the Nigerian community in the country.

Speaking with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the spokesperson of the Nigeria Union South Africa (NUSA), Odefa Ikele said the attacks started in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

“Groups made up of community members and taxi drivers went to different areas in Witbank attacking foreign-owned businesses and foreigners.

“Three Nigerians were injured, but no death case for now. Some of our nationals are seeking refuge at Witbank Police Station,’’ he said.

With the details of the incident still sketchy, NUSA said that Police in the area have intervened and warned people to stay away from the Central Business District in the town.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari recently visited the President Cyril Ramaphosa, expressing his displeasure over the constant attacks. Efforts have been made to ensure they found amicable and lasting solution to xenophobia in South Africa.

Over five hundred Nigerians have returned home in fear of their lives.

Buhari visited Ramaphosa in early October and held a town hall meeting with the Nigerian community.
