Gabbiadini Becomes Second Serie A Player To Test Positive To COVID-19

Sampdoria forward, Gabbiadini has been confirmed to be carrying the Coronavirus.He is the second Serie A player after Danielle Rugani to test positive to COVID-19.

Italy’s government recently suspended all football proceedings and put the country on a total lockdown with only food stores and pharmacies left running.

The set rules placed by the authorities have been strictly followed by football teams but there’s only so much they can do to contain the further spread of the virus.

While Gabbiadini tested positive to the virus, Sampdoria announced that the forward is not in any immediate danger.

“UC Sampdoria announces that Manolo Gabbiadini has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19),” a club statement read.

“Gabbiadini has a slight fever but is otherwise fine. The club is activating all isolation procedures as set out by the authorities.”

Gabbiadini followed up this post with a post of his on Twitter where he wrote:

 “I’ve tested positive for coronavirus. I want to thank you all for the many messages I’ve received. I also want to let you know that I’m fine, so don’t worry. 

“Follow the rules, stay at home and everything will work out.”

The forward featured for Sampdoria in a Serie A encounter against Hellas Verona, a game that was played behind closed doors.

Following the confirmation of Hellas Verona’s test, Sampdoria announced they will be suspending till further notice all upcoming games of theirs.

“Hellas Verona FC announces that, following the Sampdoria statement regarding Manolo Gabbiadini’s positive test for Covid-19, any scheduled competitive activity is suspended until further notice,” a statement from the club read.

“The club is taking steps to prepare all the necessary procedures.”

The forward is the second player in the Serie A to test positive to the virus. Rugani also tested positive to the virus, forcing his teammates Cristiano Ronaldo to self-isolate.
