GEJ – Leaders should not seek Power for the Purpose of Enjoying Privileges

– Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has advised leaders not to seek for power for the purpose of enjoying privileges but for the purpose of improving livelihood of the Populace

– He also spoke on the need for peace in Bayelsa state during and after elections

Former Pres. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in a statement released today has sent a message to all those who desire to govern in Nigeria.

The Former President in his statement while speaking at a workshop centered on Credible Governorship Election and Good Governance in Bayelsa State, which was put together by Ijaw Elders Forum, stated that Leaders should not seek the post of power for the purpose of enjoying rather they should do so with purpose of improving the livelihood of the people.

Goodluck Jonathan in his statement to Ijaw Leaders also called for peace to develop the state, he also emphasised on the need to work together as one.

The former Pres. in the statement via his Twitter handle wrote, “My message to all those who desire to govern us is that we shouldn’t seek power for the purpose of enjoying privileges and entitlements but  for the purpose of improving the livelihood of the people.”

“We need  peace to develop as a State ; to develop as a state we need to work together and ensure that peace is sustained during and after elections. The Ijaw Charter and Ijaw Nation Code of Ethics, Leadership & Governance is a welcome development.

“Our society will be better if all political players commit themselves to this Charter.” Some of my thoughts at the workshop on  Credible Governorship Election and Good Governance in Bayelsa State organised by Ijaw Elders Forum.”

In another report, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has shifted the Bayelsa State Governorship election to the 16th of November.
