Genevieve Attains Billonaire Status With Debut Movie

Genevieve has always been in the news for the right reasons. This time its a little push than what we are used to as the Nollywood star just claimed billionaire status. Netflix are reported to have acquired Lion’s Heart for a whooping sum of 3.8 million dollars.

While this may sound like old news. This Is only the first official disclosure of the movie’s acquisition fee. Netflix had acquired worldwide rights to the movie late last year. Even so, this would be Netflix’s first original film from Nigeria, as they buy are outright owners of the movie this time. The streaming company are no strangers to Nollywood as they had previously obtained licenses for The Wedding Party and October 1. However, this time around they would be in charge of sales, distribution and marketing, name a few.

This is a huge boost for the Nigerian film industry. Nollywood which has a bad reputation for making low-budget movies have churned out chunks of garbage movies yearly. They are indeed the world’s second biggest movie industry by volume. Recent moves however as seen a change in tides with the industry beginning to lay emphasis on quality rather than quantity.

Movies like  The wedding party, A trip to Jamaica, October 1 are testimonies to this. These productions were met with excellent box office records and the The Lion’s heart is no exception.

The Netflix Original  has definitely brought Nigeria to the spotlight. It would expose the good in Nigeria, something several other Nigerian productions have failed to portray.

The movie featured a number of big refreshing names. The likes of Nkem Owoh and Pete Edochie brought a good-feel factor to the movie. Other stars who featured include Peter Okoye (P Square), Onyeka Onwenu and Phyno. Although, Phyno and Peter Okoye weren’t particularly impressive, it definitely had an effect on the general acceptability of the movie.
