Gerard Cousin – Bobby Duncan – Leads His Side To FA Youth Cup Triumph Over Manchester City

The young Reds have emerged victorious in their Youth FA Cup encounter with Manchester City after the game went down to the wire and the Reds lifted the trophy after winning on penalties. Gerard’s cousin, Bobby Duncan also registered on the scoresheet for his side to keep the game even for regular 90 minutes of play.

Nabil Touaizi goal on the stroke of half-time looked like Manchester City were running away with the game until Bobby Duncan, a cousin of Liverpool legendary midfielder, Steven Gerard pegged one back to take an evenly contested match all the way to a penalty shootout for the third time in the competition’s history.

Manchester City’s second spot kick taker, Cole Palmer was denied by the crossbar and ultimately ended things for the young Citizens with that miss.
Paul Glatzel scored the decisive spot-kick for Liverpool to ensure that his side came out victorious with a 5-3 penalty win.

Nabil Touaizi joined Manchester City youth ranks from Valencia in 2017 and has gone on to net 11 times in 23 appearances for the Citizens in all competitions.

His goal was however cancelled out by 17-yr-old Liverpool forward, Bobby Duncan after a goalkeeping gaffe by City’s goalie, Louie Moulden saw the ball at the back of his own net and force the match into extra time.

Quite interestingly, Duncan had spent seven years in Manchester City academy before joining Wigan Athletic in 2011 and final making the move to Liverpool last summer.

He has been a prolific goalscorer for his new side, notching 24 goals and recording seven assists in only 33 appearances.

The youth teams of the closest challengers of this season’s Premier League title showed traces of the kind of play instilled in their senior teams.

Manchester City dominated the possession, dictated the pace and flow, an evident characteristic of Pep Guardiola teams. The Spanish gaffer was also in attendance for the final clash.

Whilst the Citizens kept hold of the ball, their counterparts showed why they are the best at high pressing, constantly prowling and forcing City defenders to concede mistakes.
