Germany Needed A 90th-Minute Goal To Scrape Past Netherlands

Nico Schulz, saved Germany their blush with a 90th-minute goal that ensured a 3-2 victory over Netherlands in a highly entertaining Euro 2020 fixture. The Hoffenheim defender slotted a Marco Reus cross into the bottom corner of the net to hand the Germans a good start to their Euro 2020 Qualifiers campaign.

First half goals from in-form Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry gave us the thoughts that Germany could stroll past Netherlands but goals from Matthias De Ligt and Depay who levelled the scores few minutes past the hour ensured that the Orange boys got back into the game early enough.

The first goal arrived in the 15th-minute when Sane worked the ball onto his feet after receiving the ball from wing back, Schulz before firing into the far corner of Cielessen’s net.

Germany then doubled their advantage in the 35th-minute with a Serge Gnabry hurler which eclipse the beauty of Sane’s goal. The Bayern Munich striker worked his way into the opposition’s box before sending an unstoppable curler into the top corner of the net to silence the crowd. Such a beauty that goal was!

Virgil Van Dijk was tasked with the job of holding Sane but the German gave him bouts of headaches to endure through the night with his pace and marauding runs.

Netherlands soon got their first when De Ligt headed a superb cross from Memphis Depay into the corner of the net.

With that goal, Netherlands came on with a rampaging attack, ready to pounce on any defensive mistakes, Germany were lost for a minute there as they sought answers to stopping the surge of attackers on their backline.

Depay then levelled the scores in the 63rd minute after working some space in Germany’s box and sending the ball into the bottom corner with a  fine strike only for them to be caught in the ankle at the last minute by a goal from Nico Schulz.

Netherlands 2-3 Germany it ended.
