Global COVID-19 Cases Tops 3 Million As Strict Lockdown Measures Get Reduced
The global figure of confirmed cases of coronavirus has reached the three million mark.
According to a tally by Johns Hopkins University, the US – the epicenter of the virus and causality rate has almost a third of all infections. The US currently has almost a million confirmed cases, followed by Spain with a total of 229,422.
Over 56,000 people have died in the United States, which represents more than a quarter of all deaths worldwide. Spain and US have started lifting lockdown restrictions with some state reopening in phases.

Meanwhile, Dr. Chris Murray, director of the University of Washington’s Institute for Help Metrics and Evaluation, said that they’ve adjusted their scientific model to increase the predicted US coronavirus death toll to 74,000, having predicted 60,000 deaths previously.
France’s new guideline
In a related development, France which is also fourth on the list behind Italy will relax movement restrictions later in the day at the National Assembly in Paris.
In FraNce, over 4,600 people remained in ICU and over 28,000 are hospitalised with the death toll of 23,293.
Prime Minister Edouard Philippe will outline the main rules that will dictate how key areas such as schools, shops, and businesses will move forward as confinement measures are relaxed and new guidance will also be issued on the testing and isolation of the sick, masks and gatherings.

The French prime minister also admitted that it will be a “very long time” before the country can be back to normal.
Normalcy returns in Hong Kong
In another development, civil and public servants will resume work on Monday in Hong Kong.
The government will also begin loosening some Covid-19 anti-epidemic measures after there was no report of new confirmed cases for the fourth time in eight days.
