History of Plateau State Nigeria

Plateau State is one of the Thirty six (36) states of Nigeria. This State is situated in the central (middle belt) area. Plateau State is the twelfth biggest State of Nigeria, its Capital is Jos. Plateau State has seventeen (17) Local Government Areas, Fifty tribes and borders with several other States like Kaduna and Bauchi States (North), Taraba  State (East), Nassarawa State (south&west) . The theme of Plateau State “Home of Peace”.

History of Plateau State

The name Plateau State is gotten after the picture square Jos Plateau State, a mountainous area in the northern region, with attractive rock formation. The original name of Jos (capital of Plateau) was ‘Gosh’, it was wrongly called Jos by the Hausa people that lives on that area, which is now a trading center.

Plateau State came into existence on the 3rd February,  it was carved out of Benue-Plateau State. Plateau state was joined together to form Benue-Plateau State, as of this time, Nigeria has Twelve State on same year it was created.

The British Began to exert colonial control of Nigeria in the early 20th century. In 1926, the state province is made up of Jos and Pankshin area, was carved out of Bauchi.

Ethnic Groups in Plateau State

Plateau State has Fifty (50) ethnic Groups which includes those in the Table and also representing towns and Local government that speaks the Language. Hausa Language is generally acceptable and spoken mainly, while each ethnic group has its own distinct language and no single ethnic group is majority then the other.

Economy of Plateau State

Plateau State is based on Agriculture majorly as a source that boosts the economy of the State. The plants Harvested includes Potatoes, groundnut, Fruits, yams, vegetables of varied sorts and some many eatable food Stuff.

There are also minerals such as gemstone, galena quartz, clay, kaolin columbite, tin, cassiterite, barytes and feldspar.

The Government in Plateau state

Plateau State government is divided into three arms, namely;
The Executive Arm
This is headed by the elected governor of the State, assisted by those he appoints to work with Him in the State government. SIMON BAKO LALONG is the current governor of Plateau State.

The Legislative Arm

They convene at Plateau State House Assembly in Jos. This comprises of 26 members elected by the people of the 26 constituencies of Plateau State. JOSHUA MADAKI is the speaker of the Plateau State Assembly.

The Judicial Arm

This is headed by the chief judge of the State; YAKUBU DAKWAK is the current judge of Plateau State

    Please Montol and Tehl are the same thing but Tehl is the right name Montol is a meaningless nomenclature. As you rightly said Tehl can be found in mikang and Shendam.
