Hon. Yakubu Dogara speaks on Freedom of Press

– Hon. Yakubu Dogara today spoke on the importance of Freedom, rule of law, media and violent extremism 

– He stated that Press Freedom is not negotiable and that he would continue to speak out for media outfits that uphold the ethics of journalism

Today, one of Nigeria’s biggest news media outfit, Premium Time Nigeria organized a confab that bordered on freedom of press and the rule of law.
The event was put together to mark the World Press Freedom Day.
Present at the event was Hon. Yakubu Dogara, who is the 14 speaker of the House of Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The Speaker of the House during the event spoke on Press Freedom in the country, rule of law, media and violent extremism.
Hon. Yakubu Dogara in his statement stressed that Press Freedom is not negotiable, he added that direct violence to journalists is not the only threat.
He disclosed that as one of the important personnel in the country, he would always stand up and speak out for media outfits that uphold the ethics of fairness, objectivity and truthfulness in their practice.
Yakubu Dogara in a statement said, “Earlier today, I spoke on Press Freedom in #Nigeria – Rule of #law, Media and Violent Extremism at a confab organized by Premium Time
to mark 2019 World Press Freedom Day.
Press freedom is not negotiable & direct violence to journalists is not the only threat. Those who attack As “enemy of the people” in order to erode credibility of the press are as dangerous as those perpetrating violence against journalists. As MPs we will always stand up & speak out for media outfits that uphold the ethics of fairness, objectivity & truthfulness in their practice.”
