How to Make Grilled Catfish At Home Like a Pro

Grilled catfish is a recipe that once you try, you will probably not want to eat catfish any other way again. There are many ways of preparing fish: boiling, frying, smoking; but grilling remains the tastiest and healthiest method.

To retain the flavour and nutrients in the fish, it’s best to grill it in a foil packet. All you have to do is to wrap it with an aluminium foil and cook on the grill.

Fish is very healthy and it is recommended by most doctors and nutritionists. It is known to have many benefits including boosting a healthier heart. To make your own grilled catfish at home, follow the steps below.

Ingredients for Grilled Catfish

1 medium sized catfish

1 tsp. Suya Spice

1 tsp. Chili pepper

1/2 Crushed Seasoning Cube

Cameroon Pepper

2 tbsp. Vegetable oil

2 cloves garlic

½ Small red onion

Salt to taste

Directions for Grilling Catfish

Firstly start by cleaning the fish and getting rid of the slime on it. To do this effectively, you can use sliced lime or alum.

Cut at the sides by making 2 or 3 Slashes this is done to allow the heat and spices penetrate into the fish. Follow by mixing all the ingredients together, not forgetting the vegetable oil.

The next step is to place the fish on a clean foil paper then use a brush to apply the mixed ingredients all over the fish.

After this is done, wrap it up and marinate in the refrigerator for 30mins – 1 hour. Then preheat your grill for about 7-10 minutes on both sides. Place fish on the grill. After about 15 minutes, your grilled catfish should be ready.

You can eat it alone or with servings of potato or yam chips. For that extra “oomph” we recommend adding a generous amount of Nigeria pepper sauce to the fish. In case you’re wondering, this pepper sauce is just fried habanero peppers with lots of red onions and seasoning to taste.

You can try other species of fish like croaker fish and even sardines; just prepare using the same method above.
