INEC Postpones Presidential And National Assembly Elections To February 23rd 2019
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, early on Saturday morning announced the postponement of the Presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for today February 16th to next Saturday, February 23 2019, while the State Governorship and House of Assembly elections will now hold on Saturday, March 9.
The announcement was made by Chairman of INEC identified as Prof. Mahmood Yakubu earlier on Saturday morning. The body has come out to say that they are disappointed as they announced the postponement of the elections which were meant to have kicked off today to determine a new president that will lead Nigeria for the next four years.
iDONSABI also gathers that INEC officials headed by the Chairman Prof Mahmood Yakubu earlier met on Friday night in order to review their preparations ahead of the Presidential elections and they were unable to arrive at the decision that the body was ready to organize the elections at this point.

The drastic postponement of the Presidential elections, in particular, has angered many Nigerians in the past few hours. A lot of people have made the far trip to some states where they had planned to vote only to be left heartbroken that the elections have been shifted to February 23rd.
According to INEC, in a statement they released signed by the Chairman, the decision they took was to the favour of Nigerians and they did not want to disappoint the country. Recall that schools and offices closed for the election period and even had Friday, February 15th a public holiday.
Work is now set to resume back on Monday, February 18th, for Nigerians around the country. Nigerians will have to wait till the 23rd of February to be able to vote if everything goes as planned.
