INEC Training In Imo State Disrupted By Political Thugs

Yesterday, January 1st 2019, a group of suspected political thugs disrupted the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) training programme currently ongoing in Imo State.

According to various sources, the training was conducted for the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) ad hoc staff for the February 16 and March 2 elections respectively.

The INEC training for the ad hoc staff which was happening at Dikenafai Technical School in the Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo state was disrupted by the thugs who were armed with weapons such as guns.

One of the INEC trainees who identified himself as Justice told sources that the thugs jumped into the hall midway into the training session and chased each and every person away, which included the instructors and made away with the equipment in which the INEC ad hoc staffs were using to train.

According to Justice, he stated that:

While the training programme was going on some boys jumped in and ordered everybody to leave. Before we could say a word, they had started chasing us out of the hall. They had to take the equipment including the megaphone. Nobody wants to die because of ad hoc staff job. We had to immediately run away. That was how the training ended arbitrarily. We don’t know how a training program by INEC should pose a treat to people.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Public Relations Officer in Imo state identified as Emmanuel Opara, could not state out if the disrupted training program would be rescheduled for another time due to fear of the unknown armed men who disrupted the training of the Ad hoc staffs.

The spokesperson of INEC, Emmanuel Opara, stated that she would get in contact with the commission’s Returning Officer in the Ideato
