January Transfer Window Live: News and Rumours-Day 8

It’s day 8 of the transfer window and iDONSABI takes you through the lastest transfer rumours and the import of such deals.

Dembele nearing move to Chinese Super League

Moussa Dembele could be on his way out of North London as offers have been reportedly submitted by Beijing Sinobo Guoan for the Belgian. Mauricio Pochettino however denies knowledge of the said offer but insists he is open to concrete offers according to a report by FOX Sports Asia.

This report follows the unwillingness of the player to put pen to paper. Besides, the 31-year old’s contract expires in the summer. The club would therefore be willing to cash in on the player. The Chinese club had seen their requests earlier in the year rebuffed. They would however not relent on their quest to see the Belgian move to the Super League. The Spurs have reportedly been offered a fee in the region of £12m for the midfielder.

Nevertheless, Pochettino is adamant that Tottenham’s purchasing power is not fully dependent on the number of players offloaded by the club in the transfer window.

What this deal could mean

This deal could well help Spurs offset a huge chunk of their wage bill. Dembele might have been instrumental to Spur’s success in the last few seasons. He however is not likely to be missed as Harry Winks and Sissoko have stepped up to the game for the North London side. The pair have put up excellent performances match after match to see them second-placed in the League. Fans will trust Pochettino’s decision to offload the player if the deal finally happens.

Arsenal in talks with Edu Gasper for Director of football role?

Arsenal are reportedly in talks with Brazil’s technical coordinator, Edu Gasper, for a possible role at the club in the capacity of Technical director according to Globo Esporte. They will be looking to appoint a technical director soonest and will be looking in the direction of former player for that.

Gaspar had previously played for Arsenal between the years 2002 and 2005. He won two Premier League titles with the North London club and was a vital member of Arsenal’s invincibles. He’s well known for his openness to the media in his post as Brazil’s technical director.

What this deal could mean

This would outrightly rule out rumours linking Wenger with the job. This could be a step in the right direction as they could get a director in tandem with the club’s philosophy in charge of club’s signings.
