Jeff Bezos And Mackenzie Break Marriage Ties

Jeff Bezos and Mackenzie  jointly announced on Wednesday according to a report by BBC that they plan to divorce in what could make Mackenzie the richest woman alive. They have put action to that and have broken marriage ties after 25 years of marriage.

Jeff Bezos has a share of 16% in Amazon, valued at 137bn dollars and have settled for a fair sharing formula for their estimated wealth. Several sources have put Mackenzie’s share at a whooping 96 million dollars mark.

They couple had this to say about the divorce:

“As our family and friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends”, “If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would still do it again”.

Bezos and Mackenzie met and got married while both were workers at D.E Shaw in New York. Not long after, they moved across town to Seattle. This was the origin of Amazon.

She was a key player in the little beginnings of Amazon.com when they operated from a small garage. According to a 1999 wired report, she did the company freight’s first paper work. She would therefore have equal rights to the company having being there from the start. The mother of four could well on be her way to lots of fortune. The 48-year old woman would be the richest woman alive if she claims 50% of Bezos worth.

Under the Washington State law, property acquired in a marriage backed legally is to be equally divided. The only exception being a pre-marriage agreement against such. The objective of such law is to ensure that marriages of 20 years and beyond could provide well for the issues from such marriages.

Just last year, the couple announced plans of funding non-profits in their bids to help hopeless families. They have however vowed to continue together as friends, parents and partners nonetheless.
