Joao Felix On The Brink Of Joining Atletico Madrid

Nineteen year old Joao Felix is on the brink of joining Spanish giants, Atletico Madrid and could see himself playing at the Wanda Metropolitano if Benfica accept their offer.

The 19-yr-old would sign a five year deal worth about €3.5 million per season with Atletico Madrid if the Portuguese club accept the Spanish side’s €126 million bid.

Benfica released a statement to that effect mentioning that Madrid had made an offer exceeding the 19 year old’s release clause.

That said, Benfica hands are not tied as they could still refuse selling considering that Atletico Madrid would want to pay the fee in installments to soften the effect such fee could have on their financial health.

Although the Portuguese giants are thought to be considering the deal and have not made any decision announcements yet, Joao Felix is expected to be unveiled as an Atletico player soonest.

Indeed, the 19 year old would be Atletico’s most expensive signing in history if the deal goes through.

He would then join his teammates on July 4 some three days before their pre-season preparations.

Joao Felix joined Benfica’s youth system from Porto in 2015 and broke into the first-team in 2018-19.

He went on to notch 15 goals in 26 league games this term as Benfica claimed the Primeira Liga crown and made 49 appearances across all competitions.

He also played a part in Portugal’s UEFA Nations League victory as they thumped Switzerland in the semis where the youngster featured for 70 minutes, though he was an unused substitute in the 1-0 win over Netherlands in the finals of the competition.

Atletico who were runners up in the LaLiga last term would see Antoinne Griezmann move elsewhere this summer and have now outlined Joao Felix as a long term replacement for the World Cup winner.

Atletico have a history of producing fantastic strikers in recent years, most notable of them are Aguero, Falcao, Torres, Morata, Diego Costa and now Griezmann.
