JUST IN: INEC Moves Kogi, Bayelsa Governorship Elections to November 16

Information reaching iDONSABI indicates that the Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday announced that the governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa States have been shifted to November 16.

The electoral commission had earlier announced November 2 as the election day in the two states.

The commission in a statement said the decision was taken after several pleadings from government, state assembly, elders, religious leaders, traditional rulers and other critical stakeholders in Bayelsa state that the poll coincides with the state’s annual Thanksgiving Day which is backed by the Bayelsa State Government Day Law 2012.

“After careful consideration of the appeals, the commission at its regular weekly meeting held today Thursday 16th May decide to shift the governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa State to Saturday 16th November 2019,”Part of the statement reads.
