Kaduna: PFN CAN kick against Religious Bill warn El-Rufai

– PFN and CAN has kicked against Religious Bill been passed by the Kaduna House of Assembly

– The Religious bodies warn Gov. Nasir El-Rufai against signing the bill as it would lead to religious crisis in the state

According to a recent report, religious bodies; the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria PFN and the Christian Association of Nigeria CAN have kicked against the Religious Bill passed by the Kaduna House of Assembly.

The Christian bodies warned Gov. Nasir El-Rufai against signing the bill into law because it would plunge the state into further religious crisis.

A report made it known that the Kaduna House of Assembly had on Friday passed a bill seeking to ban any public religious activity in the state except a license is obtained before such event takes place.

CAN in a statement released by the Kaduna State Chairman, Joseph Hayab, said, “You don’t make laws with the intent of causing havoc, you make laws with the intent of helping people to unite. You don’t make laws and claiming that the purpose of the law is for peace but the law itself is used to cause a crisis.”

He however, called on Governor Nasir el-Rufai not to sign the bill because it has the potential to cause havoc in the state.

The CAN chairman in his statement stressed that the body is also a stakeholder in the nation building, he added that the bill would be tested in the court of law “because we are in a democracy, people should not just bring laws from the back door.”

Also in a support to the statement released by CAN, the PFN in a statement via it Counsel, Sunny Akanni, expressed displeasure at the Kaduna House of Assembly for disobeying a court order which restrained it from passing the bill.

He added that, “We are going to serve forms 47 and 48 on the house for disobedience of a court order and if they don’t respond, we will charge the clerk and the speaker of the house for contempt of court.”
