Kaduna Speaker Abdullahi Shagali Resigns

Information reaching us at iDONSABI indicates that Aminu Abdullahi Shagali has resigned as Speaker of Kaduna State House of Assembly, on Tuesday morning.

According to sources from the Assembly, Shagali tendered his resignation before the house during the plenary session.

According to a memo he wrote to the clrk of the house this morning, he tendered his resignation on personal grounds.

Sources, however, said that members of the House had started collecting signatures to impeach him before he eventually bowed to pressure and resigned.

Chairman, House Committee on information, Tanimu Musa, confirmed he submitted his resignation letter on Tuesday.

However, Shagali’s offence that led to the alleged impeachment plan is unknown as the time of filing this report.

The 40-year-old professor became Speaker on the coming of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to power in 2015 and got re-elected to preside over the House in 2019 on the strong recommendation of Governor Nasir Ahmed El-Rufa’i.
