Lagos Okada, Keke Ban: Bolanle Olukanni, Leo Dasilva, Others React
The Lagos State Government announced a few days ago that Motorcycles(Okada) and Keke Napep (Tricycles) commercial activities has been banned in major areas of Lagos State. These Local Government Areas include, Surulere, Lagos Mainland, Ikeja, Apapa, Lagos Island and Eti Osa.
See The Full List Of Affected Areas Below:
The ban doesn’t exclude online Okada transport system like Opay and Gokada. It however doesn’t include dispatch or logistics riders as long as they don’t have passengers and have their complete documents.
Many Nigerians do not like this idea and have taken to social media to share their opinions on the ban.
Nigerian TV host, Bolanle Olukanni complains about how hundreds of people have had their jobs and source of livelihood snatched from them by the ban. She added that the government “hates us” and the ban is inconsiderate.
Our government hates us!! I seriously pray to God that you experience poverty and suffering so you know what it means to be a an average Nigerian in Nigeria. The most I considerate bunch of human beings ever .

Leo Dasilva complained that buses should have been banned instead of bikes.
Craziest thing about this Ban is that, OPAY and the rest use more recent bikes, damn even Okada and Keke. You see the Danfo buses? Those buses should not be on the roads any more. They are older than me, they cause pollution. The drivers have zero regard for laws.

If you ban Okada in Apapa, the people living and working there should be allowed to be working from home.
That's the only way they can survive this.— The Papi (@tawah89) January 27, 2020
This Lagos Okada ban is just the government declaring free money for policemen and Lastma officials.
Last week, after the fake list of banned route was released, I met an Oride guy who paid ₦10,500 to get back his impounded bike from policemen at the Ojodu Police Station.

You mean the govt can just wake up one morning and call an end to a business that serve millions of lagosians. How do you ban Okada, Opay and Gokada at the same time. These guys have been the only way to avoid the crazy Lagos traffic. Road una no do na to suffer people una sabi

4) Many Motorcycles and Trycycles are gotten on hire purchase. This is investment gone bad for manufacturers and loan companies.
5) Direct increase on cost of food because the food seller who spends more to transport their products will transfer that increase to their prices.

Just before you take a stand on this Okada ban, I would recommended you have words with health officers in A&E wards of leading public hospitals in Lagos. Better still, pay a visit to LASUTH & IGBOBI orthopaedic hospital.
So you won't be guilty of the narrative of a single story.— Olufemi Adebimpe (@femiadebimpe) January 28, 2020
