Latest News in Nigeria Today: Another Nigerian Arrested in Saudi Arabia for Peddling Cocaine; Nigeria Labour Congress Gives FG Until May 1 To Sign The Proposed Minimum Wage; Read iDonsabi for full details.

1. President Buhari congratulates Prime Minister Netanyahu on election victory. 

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Isreali Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu on his victory in the parliamentary election.

The Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Sunday, said Buhari extended best wishes to the people of the State of Israel in the aftermath of the successful conclusion of the poll.

While also wishing them peace, progress and stability, president Buhari said he looked forward to continuing to work with the Israeli Prime Minister to strengthen existing cordial and mutually-beneficial relations between the two countries.

2. Communities Clash, leaves Scores Dead in Taraba. 

Persons have been killed and others left injured in a fresh community clash between Jukun and Tiv tribes in Wukari, South of Taraba State.

According to reports, many properties have also been destroyed during the clash which started last week.

Governor of Taraba State, Darius Ishaku has condemned the violence, which he attributed to incessant conflict between Jukun and Tiv people in Taraba and Benue states.

According to a statement by the media aide to the governor, the latest occurred in Kente, a border community in Taraba state, resulting from a minor conflict between both ethnic groups.

The governor urged residents of the affected border communities to live together in peace and harmony as frequent conflicts only lead to disruption of economic activities and aggravate poverty and hunger.

3. Another Nigerian Arrested in Saudi Arabia for Peddling Cocaine. 

Weeks after the news that a Nigerian lady in Saudi Arabia was beheaded, another Nigerian has been caught at Jeddah Airport, in Saudi Arabia, for allegedly smuggling about 1,138g of cocaine, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Diaspora, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa revealed on Friday.

Dabiri-Erewa while addressing journalists in Abuja expressed sadness and disappointment that this was coming shortly after a Nigerian lady was executed in the same country for a related offence.

“The sad thing is that in the midst of talking about 20 Nigerians on death row, even as eight had been executed, just yesterday (Thursday), another Nigerian, Wahid Somade, was arrested at Jeddah Airport with about 1,138g of cocaine.

“The latest one would be added to those that could be executed.

“We keep appealing to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to ensure that their trial is fair,” Dabiri-Erewa said.

4. Don’t Reduce Men To Animals – Genevieve Nnaji. 

Award-winning Nigerian actress, Genevieve Nnaji took to her Instagram to encourage boys to rise above the stereotype.

She shared an image that read “ ‘ boys will be boys’ claim is a form of objectification and don’t reduce men to animals who don’t know right from wrong.

“Brothers, you can rise above the stereotype, love y’all” she wrote as caption.

5. Nigeria Labour Congress Gives FG Until May 1 To Sign The Proposed Minimum Wage. 

NLC has given FG an ultimatum until May 1 to sign the agreed N30, 000 minimum or else the union would go on strike.

The president of the group, Ayuba Wabba made it known that if the workers do not get the new minimum wage as at when due, the union would take drastic decision.

6. NUPENG Warns Nigerians To Desist From Panic Buying of Fuel For Future Uses. 

The Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has publicly advised Nigerians to halt panicking on rumours of fuel subsidy and also an increase in the fuel price later on in the coming months.

A statement which was released and also signed by the NUPENG South West Chairman identified as Tayo Aboyeji, made it clear that Nigeria has enough petrol and diesel circulating in every state of the federation.

NUPENG South West Chairman, Tayo Aboyeji said in a statememt:

“Nigerians should stop spreading and listening to rumours of government removing fuel subsidy and increasing the pump price of fuel. We are not aware of such move, there is enough fuel in circulation and no increase has been made so far, ”

7. Ruggedman Accuse Police of Killing Young Lady in Ajegunle. 

Veteran Nigerian rapper Ruggedman, has revealed that the Nigeria Police force has allegedly killed a 20year Old girl, in Ajegunle, Lagos.

Ruggedman took to social media to make this revealation. Ruggedman also alleged that the boy who was with the girl was shot and struggling for his live in the hospital where he is being treated.

This alleged killing is coming during a period where police brutality and shootings is at the forefront of citizens worries.

8. USA Government Warns Its Citizens Against Coming To Nigeria. 

The US Department of State has cautioned its citizens to “reconsider travel to Nigeria because violent crime, such as armed robbery, assault, carjacking, terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping, rape and piracy, is common throughout the country.”

In a travel advisory published on its website, which contains information on the safety and security of US travellers, Nigeria was listed among 35 countries with a ‘K’ indicator, that indicates where its citizens could be at risk of getting kidnapped or taken hostage.

9. IPOB Reacts To The Recent Controversy Surrounding Alhaji Atiku’s Citizenship. 

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB has claimed that the recent controversy surrounding the citizenship of Alhaji Atiku only confirms the claims made by the leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu as true.

The group also mentioned that the recent political climate would only also confirm Kanu’s claim that President Muhammadu is dead and is currently being replaced by an impostor, Jubril Al-Sudani, a Sudanese.

10.Kidnappers Kill American Military Officer in Imo state. 

It was reported on Saturday that a Nigerian man who served in the American Army was killed by kidnappers in Imo State.

Mr Chuks who was a Veteran in the US Army was reported to be on holiday at Okigwe where he was kidnapped.

According to report, Mr Chuks as a result of his military training engaged the kidnappers in a gun fight and he succeeded in killing 2 out of the seven suspected kidnappers. The kidnappers having noticed his resiatance, gunned him down with their AK47.
