1. Ex-INEC Official Guilty of N264.88m Money Laundering

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday convicted a former INEC Administrative Secretary of Kwara State, Christian Nwosu.

He was found guilty of laundering N264 million by the court.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) re-arraigned Nwosu for allegedly accepting monetary favours from a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

2. Catholic Hospital Demands N18m Medical Bills from Kaduna Govt.

The management of a Kaduna based Catholic hospital has demanded the sum of N18M from the Governor of the state, Nasir El-Rufai.

The hospital said the N18.2million medical bills was for the treatment of victims of recent communal clashes in Kasuwan Magani as well as the casualties of the 2011 post-election violence.

The hospital also said that included in the accumulated bill was also part of the medical bills for those attacked at a police station in Kujama and also some children electrocuted in Kakuri in 2012. There was also a case of victims of train derailment.

3. Super Eagles Ahmed Musa Loses Mother

Nigerian footballer, Ahmed Musa’s Mother is dead.

Musa’s mother, Sarah Moses died yesterday, 24th January 2019.

The news was announced by Musa himself on his Twitter page yesterday.

4. Blind, Lepers to be Assisted by Guides at Polling Booths, — INEC

The INEC has announced that the blind, lepers and other people with one form of disability or the other will be allowed to go to the polling booths with their guides during the elections.

Kasim Gaidam, Adamawa’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, made this known in Yola on Thursday at the one day sensitisation forum organized for persons living with disability.

5. Buhari Pledges to Commence East/North Railway Line if Re-elected

President Buhari says that East to North corridor of the railway project will commence as soon as he is re-elected in the coming elections.

Buhari made the pledge during the APC Presidential Campaign rally in Onitsha on Thursday.

According to him, the railway would start from Port Harcourt through Owerri, Nnewi, Enugu and Ebonyi and then to Maiduguri.

6. Ezekwesili Speaks on Withdrawing from Presidential Race to Negotiate Ministerial Position

The former presidential candidate of Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, ACPN, Oby Ezekwesili on Thursday refuted allegations by the party’s National Chairman, Alhaji Abdul-Ganiyu Galadima, that she withdrew from the presidential race to shop for a ministerial position.

Ezekwesili, through her Media Aide, Uzoma Ubabukoh stated that claim of her withdrawing from the presidential race to negotiate for Minister of Finance was a figment of Galadima’s imagination.

The former Minister said that her decision to quit was ro build a coalition to stop both the APC and the PDP.

She said neither APC nor PDP has what it takes to rule the country.

7. Court Remands Pastor for Allegedly Sodomizing Two Boys

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered that 28-year-old pastor, one Seyi Adelana be remanded in prison for allegedly defiling two boys.

The prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde told the court that accused committed the offence between June and November 2018 at his residence in the Igbogbo area of Ikorodu, Lagos, is being tried for defilement.

Ayorinde said that the accused had sexually assaulted the minors, both 17 years old, by defiling them through their anus.

8. Reps. Move to Probe Kachikwu over Financial Irregularities

The House of Representatives on Thursday revealed its plans to investigate the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, over some alleged irregularities in the renewal process of the oil and gas lease.

The announcement said the Green Chamber would also probe the involvement of the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR in the allegations.

This is followed by a motion by an APC House of Rep member,  Chika Adamu at the plenary presided over by the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, in Abuja.

Adamu in his motion, alleged that the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources and the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR renewed leases of companies that did not pay royalties to the government for the oil and gas lifted.

Lawmaker Adamu said lifting oil and gas without paying homage to the government was against extant laws.

9. Nigerians March in South Africa, Demand Free, Fair Election

Hundreds of Nigerians living in South Africa on Thursday staged a rally and marched on the streets of Johannesburg demanding that the 2019 general elections be free and fair.

iDonsabi was reliably furnished that at the rally, which was organised under the aegis of Southgerians, the marchers also made a number of other demands from the government.

One of their major demands was that the government should ensure that other arms of government like the legislature and the judiciary are allowed to perform their individual roles in the separation of power without any fear of intimidation by the executive arm of the government.
