I Was Suspended For Refusing To Release N975m – Embattled NHIS ES, Usman Yusuf

Embattled NHIS Boss, Mr. Usman Yusuf has opened a can of worms on the reason why the governing council is seeking to displace him. He claimed he was suspended for refusing to release 975 million naira to the Ministry of Health. Mr. Yusuf made these claims on Friday when he appeared before the House of Representatives committee on investigating his suspension. While addressing the House of Rep committee in Abuja, he also claimed that the panel investigating him was bribed. He ascribed his recent predicament to his refusal to hand over the funds.

Asked whether he has any evidence, Yusuf responded in the affirmative, saying, “I even have documented evidence of how the money was shared”.

Yusuf also revealed that the day the governing board announced his suspension, was the day he was meant to present a report on the violation of the public procurement processes at the agency.

 

Imo APC crisis: Substituting my name illegal, unconstitutional –Nwosu

Still on the APC primaries crisis, Mr Nwosu, the alleged winner of the Imo State governorship primaries has called out the National Chairman for manipulating results. On Saturday, Mr Nwosu said it was a shame that Oshiomole was the National Chairman of APC at this time when the party ought to concentrate on winning the general elections instead of being embroiled in intra-party politics.

Nwosu made this statement in reaction to the decision of the Chairman to substitute his name with that of Senator Hope Uzodinma as the governorship candidate of APC. He insisted that he remains the authentic candidate of the party, irrespective of Oshiomole’s announcement that he had forwarded Uzodinma’s name as the preferred candidate.

 

Two Global Banks: HSBC and UBS Have Shut Down Their Operations In Nigeria

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has revealed that two global giants, HSBC and UBS have closed their respective offices and shut down operations in the country. Although no official reason was provided by these international giants, the CBN has alluded this setback to the drastic fall of foreign direct investments from 532.6 billion naira to 379.84 billion within the first half of the year 2018.

We should also recall that HSBC had predicted doom for the Nigerian economy if President Buhari was re-elected in 2019.

 

Ekweremadu Hails Unsealing of Nigerian-owned Businesses in Ghana

Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu has applauded the decision of the Government of Ghana for unsealing over 400 Nigerian-owned shops in the country. Ekweremadu also encouraged all 15 – member states of the Economic Community of West African States to only strive towards policies and laws that will make ECOWAS citizens feel at home in every part of West Africa.

In a statement on his Facebook page, @iamekweremadu, at the weekend, the deputy Senate President said, “I have been keeping a tab on the sealing of over 400 Nigerian-owned businesses in Ghana, especially in Kumasi, by that country’s authorities.

“Therefore, my heart was gladdened when the Regional Minister of Ashanti, Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah, called to inform me that the affected shops had been unconditionally unsealed.

“The President of the Nigerian Union of Traders Associations, Ghana, Mr. Chukwuemeka Nnaji, also reached me to confirm the development.

“This is the true African spirit and show of ECOWAS brotherhood.

“I want to convey special appreciation to Ghanaian authorities, especially the Regional Minister of Ashanti, my dear friend, brother, and former Deputy at the ECOWAS Parliament, Hon. Osei-Mensah for this.
